Dear EKA Editor
Whilst people in the ekf keep bowing down to the boards dictatorship and not growing balls and acting on what they are bitching about the ekf board can and will carry on doing what they like giving your associations money out to who ever they like. I am sorry but no matter how many good people are on the board until you get the majority nothing will change. Out of the original 4 that got their 2 have resigned and from when I spoke to 1 at a comp in Sheffield not so long ago it seemed to me that he was becoming bastardized in their ways. In short the ekf board can do what they want with associations money and I don't think anything that the good board members say will change that.
Also EKF Admin herself his claiming expenses from the EKF while attending squad sessions and comps. All parents and coaches should be made aware of this so they can claim as well.
The latest is a good one, join the EKF as a club, who thought of that one? there are no comps to attend for the clubs that join, the EGM has still not been set? the accounts have not been seen? and to top it all we the EKF have been rejected by SE. On top of all this we have a rule that is used to dictate to some but not all.
Perhaps those that have recently departed the EKF did the right thing and join a world body that dosn't dictate and allows groups to get on with what they want to do.
Regards

Hi EKA, Can you blank out my e-mail address - thanks. While searching for the date of a particular tournament, I fell upon some interesting information detailing another breach of article 21.9. Whilst Scotland's policing seems tight (with exception to the JKS breach that was documented a few months ago) it seems one has slipped through the net. Cowdenbeath Karate Club - http://cowdenbeathkarateclub.com/news.asp This club seem to compete quite a bit, entering a fair few competitions. According to the website they have competed in the Scottish Grand Prix and the Cumbria Open, these two events being a big source of competition Karate in Scotland so it's to be expected that they've attended these. The breach doesn't seem to be a slip up, it seems to be either an unawareness of 21.9 or just ignoring it completely, such is the extent of the breach. A list of their sins are below: Numerous WKA Events Belguim 4 Nations Cup 2009 Glenrothes Open Karate Tournament The last two are unknown to me but it looks like some of the clubs at the Glenrothes event are not linked to the WKF. The most interesting event of all though is the controversial Malta event. Sounds like the brown stuff has hit the fan with this revelation. I've e-mailed the SKGB regarding a historical breach before but I got no reply. It seems that the EKF are also doing nothing about these breaches. What does this tell us? Surely it tells us that if we join the WKF bodies then we can go about our business as before and breach 21.9? This is clearly not the case though as if they seen evidence of a breach, we would be straight out the door. Why is it that people that were members of the EKF/SKGB before 21.9 was heavily enforced are allowed to breach so freely? If only the SKGB and EKF could see that it's such hypocrisy that is what is stopping people joining their federations. Of course we don't like 21.9, but if it was enforced propely and punishment was handed out then we could at least see that everyone was being treated by the same strern hand. We all know that rules are rules - however in a body such as the SKGB and EKF - the punishment should be equal rather than absent. This tradition will long continue until the breaches are punished. They day that this happens is the day that the bodies go up in my estimation.
Best Regards, GW

Hi Carl I have read the email on the EKF allowing single clubs to join without being members of an association. This action goes against the EKF constitution, changes to the constitution can only be made through an EGM being held and the members being asked to vote to the changes, the members of the EKF are associations not clubs or individuals the constitution would need to be changed by vote of the members to allow this action. If a club was allowed to join the EKF as a member then as a member they would have full voting rights because the are classified as a member, the constitution states all members will have full voting rights so this would need to be changed as well. As the vice chair person of the Heian Ryu Karate Group I ask that an EGM be called on this matter as single clubs joining as members and not paying the full subscription fees undermines the EKF constitution. Also any club joining the EKF because their association does not want to, then these clubs would have to leave that association or they will be breaking 21.9, I would assume that this information would be on the application forms to inform potential members that the must leave their association. I would ask that this email be put on the EKF web site to inform all the members that I am asking for an EGM to make these changes to the constitution to allow for clubs to join as members.

In all the years I've been involved in Karate we have never had a 'proper Governing Body'.
The constant arguing and power struggles by the same old dinosaurs has meant that Karate is effectively dying on the vine. The basic criteria that those of us 'on the ground' needed that has never been grasped or has just been plain ignored is the following.
Freedom to train or compete anywhere we liked to help improve our standard and proper access to a range of international coaches. A proper recognisable coaching qualification that is on a par with other sports (the NVQ is available but has been ignored by the politicians). Access to Sport England Clubmark recognition (this has been accessed by my club through our Kung Fu roots and the BCCMA giving us access to schools and funding streams because Karate has been incapable of this simple task). A competition licence recording injuries, competing standard and punishments. Insurance applicable to travelling competitors. Seeding of competitions and referees (it's crazy that a first time competitor can come up against a World Champion in his first fight). A decent formulated and fair selection process that would be solved by seeding competitors.
Since leaving the EKF over 21.9 and competing in WUKF we have never been happier getting away from the politics.
